Description
The Foldover Shoe is Andrew McDonald's signature silhouette — neither oxford nor loafer, but something quieter than both. The upper folds back at the throat, drawing a clean horizontal line across the vamp that gives the shoe its unhurried, considered character.
The leather is culatta — dense rump hide taken from the tightest part of the hide — treated here with albino staining, a process that bleaches and lightens the surface while leaving the grain structure intact. The result is pale and slightly luminous, unlike anything in a standard colour range, and one that will develop its own depth with wear rather than following a predictable patina.
Built on last 7577 with Blake stitch construction and an all-leather interior, this shoe is made to order at Andrew McDonald's workshop at The Strand Arcade, Sydney. The unlined throat and round toe keep the silhouette open, allowing the leather's unusual surface to speak without interruption.
