There are very few things made specifically for one person. A bespoke shoe from A.McDonald is one of them — built on a last shaped to your foot alone, from leathers selected from the world's finest tanneries, by master shoemakers who have spent their careers perfecting this work.

This is not customisation. It is creation.

THE PROCESS

01  The consultation

Every commission begins with a conversation. Book an appointment before visiting — and when you come, bring a well-worn pair of shoes, a colour reference, and any images that speak to what you have in mind.

02  Design

We work through every element together — silhouette, construction, leather, lining, detailing. We bring expertise; you bring intention. The result belongs entirely to you.

03  Measurement & last making

We study your foot with care — its length, width, arch, and the particular way it bears weight. From this, a personal last is carved. It remains in our workshop indefinitely, the foundation of every future pair you commission.

04  Pattern & upper making

A pattern is drafted and refined before any leather is cut. The pieces are then sewn together into trial uppers — in your chosen leather, with every design detail already in place.

05  Trial fitting

You try the shoe. We observe closely. Adjustments are noted, the last is refined, and nothing proceeds until the fit is right. This is where most of the work happens — and where bespoke earns its meaning.

06  Final making

With the fit confirmed, the final shoe is built from a new pattern and fresh upper. Sole and heel are attached by hand. Nothing carried over from the trial — everything made anew.

07  Completion & delivery

Collect from our Strand Arcade workshop, or we can arrange delivery. Allow 8–12 weeks from first appointment to completion.
