Description
The double monk is a resolved silhouette — two buckle straps in place of laces, a pointed toe, and nothing superfluous. Andrew McDonald's version carries the form without embellishment.
The upper is box calf, a chrome-tanned leather known for its tight, fine grain and clean surface. Here it is finished in antique brown — a hand-applied treatment that builds darker tones at the edges, seams, and strap hardware, leaving the panel centres appreciably lighter. The buckles become natural concentrations for the patina. Because the process is done by hand, no two pairs emerge identical.
Construction is Blake stitch on last 1708, with an all-leather interior throughout. Blake stitch keeps the profile lean and the footbed close to the sole — a considered choice for a shoe of this character. Each pair is made at Andrew McDonald's workshop in the Strand Arcade, Sydney.
