Description
The Double Monk is one of footwear's most enduring forms — two buckles, no lace, a silhouette that has remained essentially unchanged because it has nothing left to improve. Andrew McDonald's version is built on last 1708 with Blake stitch construction and an all-leather interior.
Chocolate pebble grain calf brings a different register to the double monk entirely. Where smooth leathers emphasise the shoe's architecture, the pebbled surface absorbs it — the buckle straps, the cap, the sweep of the vamp read as a single resolved mass rather than a series of components. The grain is tight and consistent, the colour a deep, unsentimental brown that neither asks for attention nor fails to command it. Gold hardware was the right choice here: warm against the cool depth of the leather, understated rather than decorative.
