Description
A wooden church between the hills of New South Wales, the surrounding countryside ablaze.
Bois d'Ascèse — wood of asceticism — is the fragrance that introduced Naomi Goodsir to the world of perfumery in 2012. Created with Julien Rasquinet, it remains one of the most discussed and admired niche fragrances of its era: a captivating smoke that reads as liturgical, contemplative, and quietly devastating.
The opening is immediate: tobacco and whiskey, dense and dry. Beneath it, Somalian incense — the smoke of ceremony, not campfire — supported by cade wood, cistus labdanum, and amber. As it dries, oakmoss and cedar extend the smoke into something almost architectural. Woody, resinous, and long-lasting. The kind of fragrance you can still smell on a coat the following morning.
This is Naomi's personal souvenir — a homage to her Scottish heritage and an Australian childhood in the NSW countryside. It wears with the gravity of something remembered.
Genderless. Not for the tentative. Made and hand-packed on the French Riviera near Grasse.
