Corpus Equus — latin for the body of a horse — is Naomi Goodsir's most elemental creation. Eight years in the making with master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, it is not a fragrance about the idea of a horse. It is the horse: warm leather over muscle, earth broken by a gallop, the mineral cold of birch and smoke settling into amber and musk.
The composition opens with assertive leather and smoked birch — dry, dark, and uncompromising. As it develops, incense and amber soften the edges without dulling the edge. The drydown: cedar, patchouli, and Tonkin musk, intimate against the skin. Wild, but never a beast.
Inspired by Pierre Soulages' Outrenoir paintings — works that use black not as absence, but as depth and light — Corpus Equus is a study in dark shimmering contrasts: black rose petal, horsehair and leather, cigarette ash, amber infusion.
Genderless. Made and hand-packed on the French Riviera near Grasse.
