Stickers on Wheels: Taking the A. McDonald Name onto Sydney's Streets

Handmade shoes are made slowly, by hand, one pair at a time. Getting our name in front of new people has to be a little more nimble.

This spring we tried something different. Working with Sydney's OzStickerPrinting, we created small stickers carrying the A. McDonald logo and put them on the rideshare bicycles you see around the city.

Why bikes?
A rideshare bike is seen all day, by people of all kinds, on the streets and in the places we love, from the Strand Arcade to [local areas]. It is a moving noticeboard, and it sits well with a brand built on craft and a little curiosity. Each sticker is a small, a quiet invitation to find out who makes shoes the old way, by hand, in the heart of Sydney.

Making the sticker
We wanted something that would last. Sydney weather and constant handling are tough on any sticker, so we chose a standard vinyl  finish. It is waterproof, tear-proof and fade-resistant. OzStickerPrinting  handled all our artwork and proofing online.  The process was simple, the proof was quick to turn around, and the result looks exactly as we hoped.

What we learned
A good branding idea doesn't need a large budget. A clear mark, a durable material and a place where people will see it are enough. For a small, independent maker, that is the kind of marketing we like best.
